Guitar Class for Adults

This class is for anyone interested in playing guitar, whether a beginner or someone somewhat experienced that wants to further their skills. Using a pick, playing fingerstyle, playing and strumming chords, and using a repertoire of all musical styles makes this class fun for everyone. All are welcome!

Dates:  Mondays,  Sept 18 – Nov 27, 2017   10 classes  (no class Nov 13th)
Time:  7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Tuition: $285 + $10 music fee
Location:  Potomac Building, Room 10

2013 Grammy Music Educator Award Finalist Glen McCarthy retired from Fairfax County Public Schools (VA) after 30 years as the director of the guitar program at Robinson Secondary School. Under his direction, the Robinson Guitar Ensemble was consistently awarded superior ratings at adjudicated festivals. Robinson was the first recipient of the Guitar & Accessories Manufacturers Association’s award to recognize innovative guitar programming in the United States. In the 2003-2004 school year, he was nominated for Fairfax County Teacher of the Year.

Mr. McCarthy has taught guitar methods at George Mason University, required for all music education majors at George Mason University, for over 15 years. He has been a guest clinician and adjudicator at festivals, conferences and workshops throughout Virginia and across the United States. He formerly taught at the educational center of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, and now at GMU’s Potomac Arts Academy. Mr. McCarthy graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science in secondary education with an emphasis in music. Prior to teaching, he traveled internationally for many years with the band “Hickory Wind”. He continues to perform in numerous venues and genres.
