Traditional Photography Summer Studio

Experience the magic of creating photographs and seeing them develop before your eyes! Participants will get hands-on experience in a traditional darkroom, learn how to make cyanotypes in the sun, take portraits in a professional lighting studio, and even make their own camera from an oatmeal canister! Digital photography elements will also be introduced. Family and friends will be invited to a student showcase on the final day. No camera or previous experience is required.

Jason Wellington is a lens-based artist from Alexandria, Virginia. He started studying photography while in high school. Jason received his BFA with a concentration in photography from George Mason University. His work has focused on human conflict, terrorism, and fear. Jason received his Master’s in Art Education at George Mason University in 2015. Currently, Jason is a full time art teacher in Fairfax County Pupblic Schools in Virginia.

As an artist and an art educator, Jason strongly believe that everyone should be exposed to the arts, whether visual or performing arts, the arts in general have the power to change how one thinks of themselves and the world at large. Art offers a vast and varied world and the power of creativity has the ability to solve many problems in the world.
