Steam Studio:  Learning Through Art

Do you want to be the director and animator of your very own stop motion animation film?! Integrating arts with STEM subjects, this exciting new offering supports nationwide trends that highlight how students learn about other subjects while engaged in art making. The instructor will guide students to experiment with various artistic practices, with a focus on stop-motion animation, while making connections to science, technology, engineering and math. Learn how to create amazing special effects with a wide variety of materials. Mason School of Art alum Casey Shannon will show you how to create a compelling stop motion video using minimal equipment. Topics will include storyboarding, prep and production, lighting and composition, and shooting and editing.

Casey Shannon studied Graphic Design and Art History at Seton Hill University, and he recently graduated from George Mason University with a Masters in Art Education. As a Project Based Learning teacher at Rose Hill Elementary School, Casey creates engaging lessons that challenge students to solve complex problems by planning, collaborating, and revising their ideas.
