Piano Pedagogy Seminar at Mason
June 4 - June 8, 2012

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Piano Pedagogy Seminar at George Mason University provides participants an invaluable opportunity to energize and invigorate their piano teaching methods and curriculum. Daily sessions will explore innovative teaching strategies, practice ideas, interpretive choice, and performance preparation, centered around a specific theme. The seminar is ideal for teachers who are working with multiple levels of students, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced piano students. If you are looking for a place to recharge your batteries with a phenomenal week of piano pedagogy instruction and sharing of ideas, this seminar is for you!
"The 21st Century Studio – Meeting the Challenge through Innovative Teaching" - our theme for 2012!
The piano studio is evolving day-by-day in this new millennium, melding traditional performance training with opportunities to fit the interest and needs of our students. Our multi-tasking students arrive at lessons with technology in the palm of their hands. Adult interest in piano instruction is growing rapidly nationwide, requiring strategies and flexibility to fit their life style. We often find ourselves teaching students with special needs – always a challenge. We are learning more about how the brain functions in music, along with the value of "flow" experiences. Making vital connections between music and math in the studio is of great benefit to both students and parents. Teaching strategies that bring traditional skills into the 21st century, with a twist, will be at the heart of this year's piano pedagogy seminar.
