IIA Musical Ambassadors Program
The Musical Ambassadors program was introduced in Fall 2010 in partnership with the GMU School of Music. Select Mason music students, who participate in current or newly established small ensembles, are awarded a "Musical Ambassador" scholarship, funded in part by the Instruments in the Attic (IiA) program . These Ambassadors act as representatives of GMU's School of Music to the community.
The Ambassadors go to area organizations/ schools to present special performances. These performances are followed by an interactive musical experience, such as a jam session, group lesson or drum circle organized by the Ambassador(s). Participants and their families are encouraged to play, sing and clap along using instruments from our Instruments in the Attic donation program.
The intent of this program is threefold: to provide community outreach performance opportunities for Mason students, to reach out to selected community organizations who could benefit from an interactive musical experience, and to utilize Instruments in the Attic - donated instruments for meaningful community outreach programs.
