Voice ClassVOICE CLASS FOR KIDS Ages: 5 to 8yrs
This class is designed specifically for boys and girls ages 5 to 8 years old, who are in the very beginning stage of vocal development and still too young for private lessons. Students will learn about the basics of music through song and rhythm. Musicians will gather skills to confidently read musical notation, develop sight-reading skills and basic theory knowledge, and understand rhythm and melody. The class will use the voice (a free and portable instrument!) to build music literacy, but instrumentalists are welcome and encouraged to join the class. In addition to skills building, students will create stories, games, and small compositions to engage in their art. A short, casual final performance will feature the musicians' work and highlight classical, popular, and folk musics!

Song selections will range from traditional choral pieces, to Broadway, to contemporary pop arrangements. Class size will be controlled to ensure strong individual attention. Taught in a choral style, this class can be taken multiple times, with new songs and ideas introduced each semester! VOICE CLASSES VS. PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS
Many people are unsure which to choose when it comes to taking a group class versus private lessons. For beginners to advanced beginners, especially children, the group class setting offers numerous benefits:

  • Class interaction with the instructor allows for a more comfortable yet still challenging experience
  • Ideas and instruction are more fully processed through peer observation, shared thoughts, and classroom Q&A
  • The class environment provides a more social and fun experience for both participants and, if they are children, their family members as well.
  • Enjoyable instruction in the beginning prepares and engages participants for more intense one-on-one instruction in the future
  • An important advantage for classes is that they are less expensive than private lessons, which is especially helpful to parents with children just beginning their musical journey and/or who might not be certain which musical path they want to take

In the end, it is your choice to make. If you do choose a class setting, you can rest assured that we keep our enrollment regulated to allow for plenty of personal attention and skill assessment.
