Violin ClassVIOLIN ADVENTURES GROUP Ages: 5 to 12 yrs
Violin Adventures is a special group class designed for students ages 5 - 12 who currently take private violin lessons to supplement private lesson curriculum. Based on Suzuki-style group classes, students will learn finger and bow exercises to improve their technique, strengthen their note-reading skills, and play rhythm and ear-training games. They will play pieces from the Suzuki method as well as a wide variety of other pieces in two and three part harmony. Special emphasis will be placed on blending sounds, matching bow strokes, and breathing together to create a cohesive ensemble. These students will also have the opportunity to perform solos that they learn in their private lessons for the group. These practice performances will build confident performing skills for the students. Students will also benefit from peer support and forming friendships within the violin community here at Potomac. This will be the best fit for students in Suzuki Books 1 - 4 or an equivalent level. Classes are 1 hour in duration and take place between 10:15 am and 1:30 pm. Students will be placed into age and level appropriate groups after all the registrations are received.

STRINGS CLASSES/ ENSEMBLES VS. PRIVATE STRINGS LESSONS
Many people are unsure which to choose when it comes to taking a group class versus private lessons. For beginners to advanced beginners, especially children, the group class setting offers numerous benefits:

  • Class interaction with the instructor allows for a more comfortable yet still challenging experience
  • Ideas and instruction are more fully processed through peer observation, shared thoughts, and classroom Q&A
  • The class environment provides a more social and fun experience for both participants and, if they are children, their family members as well.
  • Enjoyable instruction in the beginning prepares and engages participants for more intense one-on-one instruction in the future
  • An important advantage for classes is that they are less expensive than private lessons, which is especially helpful to parents with children just beginning their musical journey and/or who might not be certain which musical path they want to take

In the end, it is your choice to make. If you do choose a class setting, you can rest assured that we keep our enrollment regulated to allow for plenty of personal attention and skill assessment.
