Piano Classes & Lessons for Kids, Teens & Adults

Looking for a fun way to learn piano? The Potomac Arts Academy in Fairfax, VA offers the perfect blend of university-quality piano teachers and a friendly environment with other community members.

Semester: FALL 2014 (September thru December/ January)
Group Class Schedule At-A-Glance

About Our Piano Classes for Young Children Ages 6-9:
Our piano classes are an excellent introduction to beginner piano and basic musical concepts. Students will become familiar with the keyboard through games and exercises in class, along with some written theory practice for home. They will learn a variety of songs that will be practiced each week in class. Through singing and playing, students will be able to learn music at a comfortable pace. The teacher will do individual assessment for each student throughout the course of the class. At the conclusion of the classes, a small informal recital will be performed for parents and friends. After Level 2, students will be very well prepared with the necessary basics for beginner piano playing, and would easily be able to transition from the group classes to private or shared piano lessons.

PIANO CLASSES VS. PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS
Many people are unsure which to choose when it comes to taking a group class versus private lessons. For beginners to advanced beginners, especially children, the group class setting offers numerous benefits:

  • Class interaction with the instructor allows for a more comfortable yet still challenging experience
  • Ideas and instruction are more fully processed through peer observation, shared thoughts, and classroom Q&A
  • The class environment provides a more social and fun experience for both participants and, if they are children, their family members as well.
  • Enjoyable instruction in the beginning prepares and engages participants for more intense one-on-one instruction in the future
  • An important advantage for classes is that they are less expensive than private lessons, which is especially helpful to parents with children just beginning their musical journey and/or who might not be certain which musical path they want to take

In the end, it is your choice to make. If you do choose a class setting, you can rest assured that we keep our enrollment regulated to allow for plenty of personal attention and skill assessment.
