The Honors Percussion Ensemble is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students enrolled in the band program at their school. The ensemble will prepare a varied concert program of concert percussion repertoire. Students will improve their skills and rehearsal habits, and increase their awareness of and appreciation for percussion ensemble literature. In addition, students may be introduced to percussion instruments that are not typically used in a band program. Students should demonstrate an intermediate knowledge of concert percussion, including snare, mallet percussion and timpani. A letter of recommendation from the student's band director or private instructor is required to be handed in on the first day. A short audition meeting on the first day will help determine part assignments. Participants will present at least 2 performances each semester.
