FOR KIDS:
- Art Adventures/Ages 4-7:Saturdays, 11:30AM-12:45PM, start Feb 18
Instill in your children a love for art and storytelling by having them explore their imaginations to create faraway lands and fantastical creatures in various 2D and 3D media! Week by week, they will bring their imaginary worlds to life in drawings, paintings, collages, and sculptures, while also learning the elements and principles of art. *IMPORTANT: The Supply Fee covers basic materials to participate in the class (handed out on the first day). Additional supplies may be needed/desired. The instructor will provide a list of these materials, and students can either purchase these items or bring their own.

- Foundations of Art/ 8-11:Saturdays, 10:00AM-11:15AM, start Feb 18
Introduce your children to the principles of art through art history! Using tempera, pastels, and collage, students will explore the basics of color, line, form, and composition. Through exploring and improving technical skill, students will learn to see whats in front of them and how to transfer that image to their canvas in their own unique style. The students will have direction in technical skills and projects, but each student will have the freedom of creating images of what they want and finding their individual artistic expression! IMPORTANT: The Supply Fee covers basic materials to participate in the class (handed out on the first day). Additional supplies may be needed/desired. The instructor will provide a list of these materials, and students can either purchase these items or bring their own.

- Explorations in Art/ Teens: Saturdays, 1:00PM-2:15PM, start Feb 18
Teenagers will have a fun but challenging opportunity to explore the history of art, develop their ability to translate drawings into realistic paintings through various exercises, and venture into what art can offer them. By studying and applying their interpretation of classic masterpieces and developing artistic ability through the study of line, value and color with a variety of drawing media, students will learn the basic fundamentals of art, while finding their own artistic voice. All skill levels are welcome. IMPORTANT: The Supply Fee covers basic materials to participate in the class (handed out on the first day). Additional supplies may be needed/desired. The instructor will provide a list of these materials, and students can either purchase these items or bring their own.

FOR ADULTS:
- Oil Painting / Adults: Saturdays, 11:30AM-1:30PM, start Feb 18
Learn how to use oil paint to create dynamic paintings that express your own unique artistic vision. Apply color theory to paintings of still lifes and original images to find your own personal style. Develop your style by exploring the use of color and mark making in contemporary artwork, as you discover subjects and themes that inspire you to paint. No prior painting experience is necessary. IMPORTANT: The Supply Fee covers basic materials to participate in the class (handed out on the first day). Additional supplies may be needed/desired. The instructor will provide a list of these materials, and students can either purchase these items or bring their own.

REPEATING CLASSES:
These art classes can be repeated without overlap, since new artists and new concepts are explored each term. Due to our regulated class sizes, our instructors are able to develop artists of varying skill levels. Also, instructors drawn from our acclaimed Mason arts community are intermittently rotated to provide fresh ideas and areas of expertise. Begin or continue your artistic journey at Mason! |
LOCATION:
All of our Art Classes take place in the inspiring School of Art & Design building on the George Mason University campus in Fairfax VA. Parking is FREE on Saturdays in Lot A next to the School of Art & Design building.

Briton Camphouse lives in Washington DC and works at the Corcoran College of Art + Design. Briton earned her Bachelor's degree as a double major in Art and Art History, and she recently graduated with a Masters in Arts Management from George Mason University. She is Curator of the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas. Briton finds inspiration in nature and captures the beauty of the landscape through pencil drawings and paintings. Along with exploring the outdoors, she has a passion for studying the history of art and exploring techniques and creativity of past and present artists.

Clarita Herce is an emerging artist from Woodbridge, VA who creates vivid and colorful works that urge viewers to surrender to joy and presence. Through her use of brilliant, complementary colors, she aims to overwhelm the viewers' senses and arrest their minds so they can experience the radiance of the work, of the world, and of themselves. This is Clarita's second year teaching Visual Art classes wtih Potomac. Clarita is also a drawing and painting instructor at George Mason University and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Painting 1. She has a Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in Painting from George Mason University (2009). Clarita has extensive experience teaching both children and adults, and her natural exuberance keeps classes fun and lively.
